Cherished Tour of Mighty Vessels: A Voyage of Discovery

On October 19th, the enthusiastic 9th-grade students of Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan, Visakhapatnam embarked on an awe-inspiring educational journey to the Naval Dockyard. This extraordinary excursion offered them an unparalleled opportunity to explore two formidable warships of the Indian Navy—INS Shivalik and INS Mumbai.

As they entered the Naval Dockyard, the sight of these colossal vessels anchored majestically before them evoked a sense of wonder and anticipation. The students were warmly welcomed by naval officers, who provided a safety briefing and guided them aboard via the gangway, marking the commencement of their remarkable voyage.

The first vessel the students explored was INS Shivalik, the lead ship of India’s indigenously constructed stealth multi-role frigates. Renowned as a trailblazer in stealth technology, this warship embodies India’s engineering prowess. Officer Siddesh Chouhan, the dedicated instructor, enlightened the students with an engaging briefing about the ship’s sophisticated radars, advanced missiles, and electronic warfare systems. The students learned fascinating details about the ship’s 3-D radar and the impressive range of its missiles. The tour included a visit to various sections of the ship, culminating at the aircraft carrier area, where an array of armaments and fire suits were displayed.

Officer Ankit Nibhari further captivated the students with insights into pistols, guns, and their respective firing ranges. His detailed explanation of fire suit operations enhanced their understanding of the challenges faced by naval personnel. A highlight of the tour was the visit to the helipad, where students eagerly posed their questions, all of which were met with patient and informative responses.

The excitement continued as the students boarded INS Mumbai, a Guided-Missile Destroyer known for its formidable capabilities. Under the guidance of Officer Ranvir, they delved into the intricacies of the ship’s air and surface search radars, fire control systems, missile launchers, and advanced weaponry. The officer’s engaging narration and willingness to address the student’s endless curiosity left them in a state of awe.

A visit to the armament section offered a hands-on experience with naval guns and pistols. For many, the chance to hold these weapons was a thrilling and unforgettable moment. The students gained valuable insights into the rigorous challenges and unwavering dedication of naval officers serving at sea. Throughout the visit, Officer Awanesh Kumar, the tour guide, provided continuous support, sharing valuable knowledge and answering questions with great enthusiasm.

As the tour concluded, several students visited the career information section, where they explored pathways to joining the esteemed ranks of the Indian Navy. This segment of the visit ignited a sense of ambition and determination among many aspiring minds.

The cherished visit to INS Shivalik and INS Mumbai was more than an educational tour—it was a window into the dynamic world of naval operations. It sparked curiosity, broadened perspectives, and instilled a deep appreciation for the bravery and dedication of the naval forces who safeguard our seas.

Such transformative experiences not only enhance academic understanding but also inspire students to pursue greater knowledge and contribute to the nation. The memories of this tour will undoubtedly resonate in their minds for years to come, serving as a beacon of inspiration and pride.
