MODEL UNITED NATIONS

Theme: Cohesion and Divergence.

CHEMUN, a THIMUN affiliated conference is a platform for students to undergo debate and discourse on imperative issues was held from November 4th to November 6th, 2022, at American International School of Chennai. It encourages the students to join hands  to research, caucus, debate, support and pass resolutions to decipher issues of global importance. It is a three day annual conference,  for high school students who wish to show their passion and insight for contemporary international relations. This conference inspires the participants to make a mark on their communities, today’s global issues, and their future.

There are eleven different forums each with topics introduced to the students to discuss as representatives of the assigned country. They are given guidance regarding the preparation of Country Information Chart, Position Paper, Opening Speech, Resolutions and Debate. The students get to accumulate a good deal of knowledge.

How I feel about the whole trip:

“At first, I was unsure if it’d be any fun because I was going to travel with 8th graders but soon the trip grew on me and I enjoyed it a lot. It was a fine, last CHEMUN for me. An outstanding one, at that. The whole thing came together better than I’d imagined. My committee’s [DISEC’s] Head Chair and Co-Chairs played an important role in breaking the ice between us delegates, in the committee on the first day. Our Head Chair, Adesh Roberson was humorous and it was a fun committee. Finally, this is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had till now and I’ll be treasuring it.”

Ch.Krishna Prakash (Class XII)

“I got the chance to interact with both National and International students. Since it was my experience I was a bit hesitant whether I can be a part of it or not but one small lead can result in a bigger outcome. We should strive for our success, no matter what situation we are in.”

– M. Rithika (Class XI)

“I have learnt how different opinions can affect a topic, how contradicting opinions can be brought together and how implementations can be done so that everyone in the committee can be satisfied. I got to learn how to work as a team inorder to reach our goal. I had a great experience at CHEMUN and I’m looking forward to experiencing it again.”

– K. Lalithya (Class XI)

“The debating sessions were quite engaging, funfilled and knowledgeable at the same time. Overall, it was a wonderful program for me because here it’s not only about the award or certificate which has an immense value but also about the outside world and how to coordinate with others.”

– M.Sishir Prasad Raju (Class VIII)

“It was my first time to CHEMUN and also debating. I was in the committee General Assembly 3 and our topic was “Addressing the issues of Malnutrition in LEDC’s”. It was a winning moment when our resolution was the first one to pass in our committee.”

– E.Shyam Sunder (Class VIII)
